Li Chen: Eternity and Commoner
Lucky for us, the Frye Art Museum is hosting the first American solo exhibition of the work of Taiwanese sculptor Li Chen. Known for his gigantic, smooth Buddha-like figures, Li Chen is taking a less polished approach for this show, crafting his monumental clay forms on skeletons of wood and rope—and allowing them to dry, crack and reveal their innards over the course of the show. He’ll keep some figures “alive” by adding water; the others we’ll have to watch die.
